Lately the people that i met seem to be very stressed about the current financial situation that they are in. They are either concerned whether they will be retrenched or will suffer a pay cut. A time like this when the rate of inflation is unreasonable does not help either.

Adding on to those who are married, they have to stress over the rising utility bills, household expense, maintenance of the house, baby’s milk powder, future children’s education etc. Apparently, it seems that the older you are, the more stressed you will be. So I guess the best time is really when you are young and single. Less commitment and stress-free lifestyle =)

So the big question is to ask ourselves how we can live a more stress-free life. I spoke to many people about this issue and here are the findings:

1) Be appreciative of what you have: In other country, people do not even have enough to eat. We, being able to eat without any worries, have to be really thankful for it. Some countries have natural disaster while Singapore is such a safe place to stay in. Shouldn’t we be grateful for everything? Let’s take a step back and reflect on what we have. We will be happier this way than being stressful.

2) Live life simply: What do we really want in life? Drive a nice car and live in a nice house but have lots mounting debts to be worried about or live in a humble house and drive a normal car but being debt free?  Well, life is all about choices and I feel that as long as you are comfortable with your lifestyle, and most importantly, have someone to love you for who you are, life is good enough.

3) Listen to good music: Music is the soul of life. As people are mostly motivated by emotions, music plays an important role in making the mood right. Every day in my life, I listen to very powerful and motivating songs in the morning to ensure that I kick-starts my day with empowerment.

4) Indulge in good food: As the saying goes: a hungry man is an angry man. Hence whenever we are stressed out in our life, go seek out the best food in town and go for it. Once you are full, you will be too satisfied to think about the stressful things in life. Remember, stressed is just desserts spelled backwards.

5) Learn to move on: Life is not a bed of roses. God wants us to learn how to deal with challenges in life and make us learn. No point getting stuck in one place and stop there. In life, the only constant thing is change. Therefore we have to learn how to adapt and move on and not dwell on past failures or bad experiences.

6) Find peace within yourselves: Put away all negative feeling towards other things or people. Shift your focus onto more positive things so as to be happy. Some people chose to mediate while others may read, do sports or do volunteer work to find their inner peace.
