Latest Medi-Save Changes!
Just few days back in the newspaper, it was shown that there will be more uses for Medisave. In fact, Ministry of Health is set to liberalise the use of Medisave to include coverage of non-urgent hospitalisation in approved hospitals overseas and home palliative care. Both intiatives, which will be launched later this year, were revealed by our Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan.
The first intiative allows Singaporean to tap into their Medisave dollars for hospitalisations and day surgeries with oversea hospitals that have approved working relations with Medi-save accredited hospitals in Singapore. These claims can only be done through Singapore Hospital.
Second intiative has to do with medical and nursing care for the terminally ill. Right now Medisave can be used for inpatient hospice stays and therefore MOH plans to allow Medisave to be used for palliative care as well, for patient who prefers to spend their last days at home.
Personally i applause to government’s effort in liberalising the use of Medi-save for more purposes. This will help alot of people and it’s also a good step in the right direction, given Singapore’s aging population. Other than that, i also encourage people to take up private hospitalisation plans which is ‘As-charged’ so that they will have 100% coverage when the time comes.
