Does the boss of your company know who you are? How far will you go to get noticed by upper management so that you will be considered for promotion? What can you do to make yourself more marketable and capable to attain higher positions in your organization? We all are working to financially support ourselves and our families. However, what if you actually can get promoted without having to always apply and go through the formal selection process?

Try going through this checklist to see if you are up to the standards of being able to be promoted without applying for the position.

1.      Are you a computer proficient worker? It is more of an asset for one to be able to use computers maximally to improve one’s performance rather than just being computer ‘literate’ Being able to do just about anything on the computer and knowing your way around the Internet, then you’re one step closer to becoming a promotable asset.

2.      Doing your job to the best of your ability is something that we all must strive to do. By doing your best in your job, one set the bar high for the other colleagues. Bosses will note outstanding performers not mediocre ones. Go one step farther and try for perfection in every area of your job.

3.      Start out by being helpful to your managers even if they have their secretaries to assist them. To make yourself stand out from the crowd, ensure that every time you have research information that you obtain, present it with clear details adding your own critical evaluation and thinking. Make sure that when your brief is being read, there are no questions to be asked. Every aspect of your explanation covers all information and leaves no room for mistakes.

4.      Being adaptable at doing assigned duties that does not always result in compensation is also an asset. Do these duties with maximum effort and do them diligently

Once everyone realizes the improvements in you and your proficient job performance, your colleagues will approach you for suggestions and answers because they will see that your methods yield more positive results than the other persons. In the end, you will be promoted the title that encompasses the job that you’ve been given to do with no monetary increase. Always be patient and work conscientiously, your effort will soon be recognized!
