To the above question, the answer will be a straight ‘YES’. Many people that i spoke to these days were very much concerned as to whether they should upgrade their basic shield plan commonly known as Medishield. Due to the fact that they have little infor about that plan hence it is hard for them to make a wise decision as to whether to upgrade their plan.

Let me just go through the basic facts on Medishield:

1) MediShield is an individual catastrophic medical insurance designed to help Singaporeans pay part of the large hospitalisation bills (80% only) for treatment of serious illnesses or prolonged hospitalisations at Class B2/C wards in restructured hospitals.

2) MediShield covers hospitalisation expenses and certain approved outpatient treatments, such as kidney dialysis, chemotherapy and radiotherapy for cancer treatment.

3) For Singaporeans who plan to use Class B1 or higher ward classes, you may wish to consider purchasing Medisave-approved private Integrated Shield Plans

4) Expenses for treatments sought overseas cannot be claimed from MediShield but you can do so for private Intergrated Shield Plans.

5) MediShield claim for hospital stays in higher class wards or private hospital will be calculated based on a percentage(35%) of your hospital bill. Similarly, if you go for unsubsidised day surgery, your MediShield claim will be calculated based on a percentage(35%) of your bill

6) MediShield has Deductible and Co-insurance features which are payable with your Medisave or cash first, before the rest of the claim is payable from MediShield.

For all the above facts, the more you should privatise your basic shield plan because all private insurers provide ‘As-Charged’ basis for all the hospital bills. This will come out particularly very useful especially if you happen to be admitted for a long stay. The earlier you upgrade the plan, the less hassle you will face due to your health conditions. You do not want to face the situation whereby you will be subject to many exclusions.

If you have spare money, i will also advise you to go for the cash riders that can cover both the co-insurance and deductible expenses. So far, only NTUC and Aviva does not provides full coverage despite paying for the riders. The rest of the company (Pru, AIA & GE) does provide 100% coverage from the first dollar. I will STRONGLY encourage you to do so if you haven’t gotten one.

Faster inform your parents and act NOW! Don’t wait till things to happen and you regret!

Hi guys, i’m finally back after a long one week break from work. It was really a good rest for me because of the nice weather over in Macau and HK. Had a great stayin Macau because of the suite. As you can see above, the rooms are all superb nice! Damn big for two people to stay. Really got to thank Prudential for giving me such an opportunity to travel every year! During the gala dinner, some of us dressed up like the Intial D people because we happened to see those outfit while shopping in Zhuhai =)

Went to HK for 4 days and have went to most shopping places but i didn’t buy much tho. Never went to the night spot to check it out also. But overall i can say that HK is quite a nice place to go since there are many shopping outlets. For those who wants to know more about the places, you can call me to ask about it =)

Anyway now i’m very excited about coming back to work! Can’t wait to see my candidates coming in to join me in this challenging and rewarding industry. Let’s all work hard towards achieving out dreams in life!!!

Prudential has launched a critical illness plan that enables policyholders to claim up to three times
the sum assured, subject to certain conditions.

The plan, called ‘PRUmultiple crisis cover’, may be a first here. Most other critical illness plans
are bundled with whole life cover, an endowment plan or term assurance.
Critical illness cover pays out a lump sum if one is diagnosed with any of about 30 illnesses which
have strict standard definitions.

Prudential chief marketing officer Hitesh Shah says: ‘Set against the backdrop of rapidly ageing
populations across Asia, the good news is that people are living longer and health care is
improving. However, we also know that medical costs do rise with age and people may now
suffer from more than one critical illness in their lifetime.’

In the market, critical illness cover can be priced separately from whole life cover. This means
that the policy will pay out once upon the diagnosis of a critical illness, and a second time upon
death.

Most firms also offer ‘accelerated’ critical illness cover bundled with whole life. This means that
the entire policy will pay out once upon diagnosis of a critical illness, and no further claim can be
made. Premiums for ‘accelerated’ policies are more affordable. But those who survive a critical
illness are likely to be deemed uninsurable.

AXA Life, however, does offer a stand-alone critical illness plan.

Prudential has divided the types of critical illnesses into seven groups for the plan. A one-year
waiting period will apply if each claim is made from a different group.

If the first claim is for cancer, however, a five-year waiting period applies for a subsequent claim
for cancer or major organ failure. Upon the first claim, the plan will waive future premiums. The policy term can range from 20 to 98 years, up to the age of 99. The death benefit is minimal at just $3,000.

As an indication of premiums for PRUmultiple crisis cover, a 35-year-old non-smoker male will
pay an annual premium of $1,452 for a 40-year term, for a sum assured of $100,000. In
comparison, a crisis cover rider to an endowment or whole life plan will cost $1,218. The latter is
for a ‘non-accelerated’ type, which means that the life cover for the whole life or endowment will
continue, even if a claim is made for critical illness.

On the probability of a second claim, Mr Shah says that local experience is not available as
policyholders are typically not tracked once a traditional policy has paid out.

Based on UK data, survival rates of breast cancer from research done on women over five-year
periods was 50 per cent from 1971 to 1975; and 80 per cent from 2001 to 2003. Research also
shows that the risk of breast cancer relapse varied from 7 to 13 per cent, depending on which
stage of the disease and the tumour type.

Based on US data, the most life-threatening consequences of diabetes are heart disease and
stroke, which strike diabetes sufferers more than twice the usual rate.
People with diabetes are two to four times more likely to suffer strokes. Once having had a stroke,
they are two to four times as likely to suffer a recurrence. Diabetes is one of the top six killer
diseases in Singapore.
