Recently i just spoke to a friend of mine and she talked about this issue that i personally find it quite inspiring and i like to do a short sharing over there.

Just some background about her: She is a christian and has been quite a faithful child of God. In her life, she has always been blessed with smooth journey and talented abilities. Basically she doesn’t have much problems in her life.

So there was one day that she suddenly had a relevation from God. She said that she shouldn’t be coasting through her life anymore. She needs to work hard and make full use of her natural abilities and do more in life so that she will be able to serve others better. Be it her parents, sisters or her friends, she has decided to make a big change NOW! She mentioned this statement that has particularly made an impact on me: ‘ Why should she settles down when she has the potential to provide for many others around her’

After hearing this, it really makes me THINK! How many of us are really limiting ourselves in life? Are we always telling ourselves all the negative things? Are we also being too pessimistic about what is going to happen? Are we being too self-centred? Many other questions came through my mind and i shall just named a few over here. I felt that it was so true when she made that statement. Who is to limit ourselves when we are the master of our life and God is the creator of it?

Basically NO ONE is able to decide where is your fate except you. I have always heard people complaining about life is getting tougher etc but can you kindly take a minute to look at this person and ask him what he has been doing to change that fact? Most of the time, the answer is ‘ I have been trying to work hard in my 9-5 job’ Each time when i heard this answer, i knew why is this person keep complaining? It was because he has basically done nothing to improve his situation.

How can a person improve his income or lifestyle when he is doing the same thing and working on things that he knows that he will have no control over it. By working 9-5pm, he will allow his boss to decide his paycheck, promotions and bonus. No wonder he will stuck to his job for life!

WE make the choice and WE decide where does our future going to be? It’s a conscious decision we make daily to make life better so that people around us can benefit from it. Hope this little sharing will be beneficial for you to help you in the long run!

Just my 2 cent worth =)

Finally we are approaching the end of 2009 and a brand new year is just round the corner =) This year, i actually spent my Xmas eve at home with my mother enjoying her home-cooked food and tomorrow i am going to treat her dinner just before she flys off to Korea for holidays!

Well previously i have never thought of spending time with family but don’t know why this year i felt that i must at least have abit of quality time with my mother. It’s been a super busy year for me and as a result most of the time i’m always outside. I only go home to sleep and bath. Well that was my life for past 1 year but i truly enjoyed every bits of it tho tiring =)

As i am home resting, i’m also doing some reflection of what had happened this year and what i can do better next year. Early on this year, i remembered i set some goals and declared it in my blog here. At that point of time, i was very excited about it and was very optimistic about my future. However life is like that. When you expect something good to happen, there will always be something from somewhere happened that try to lure you away from your goals. Life is like a rollar coaster! To me, i do have my fair share of not being able to clear some of my goals this year.

Let me just do a short recap on what happened to me in 2009:

1) Starting of my recruitment drive early this year. Went to many job fairs and managed to get lots of contacts for recruitment. Done quite a number of interviews though not all are good.

2) Ignored my final last two modules to focus on my business here and ended up failing the two of them. Downgraded one honours class as a result But the good thing is that i don’t have to repeat because it’s my last year and they are not allowed to keep me for long.

3) Economic crisis has also resulted in the loss of all my investments funds. Most of my funds dropped at least 40% during the lowest peak of this year(march) . Thank God that i managed my emergency fund properly that i don’t have to liquidate out my investments or else i would have realised all the losses.

4) Coming to 2nd half of the year seem quite optimistic for my recruitment and i have already one agent under my care with few others taking exams. I was also lucky enough to be selected by CPF board to be one of the bloggers in their newly website: www.imsavvy.sg Being selected really boosts up my confidence level and motivates me to do more things to build up my branding.

5) Somewhere in August was really a bad time for me because i was having a relationship problem. In fact, the r/s ended on the last day of August after two years of being together. During that point of time, it was really very heart-broken as it was one of the best relationship that i ever had. However due to some stuff, two of us didn’t seem to work things out. But the good thing that happened was that we are still good friends now and on good talking term.

6) Despite feeling down for one whole month, i managed to pick myself up again. This time i managed to get my booklet published finally =) It was quite nicely done and i gave it out to my clients and friends. Planning to distribute to more people next year.

7) Had my first driving test in Oct but i FAILED Though sad but i still tell myself that it is a blessing in disguise because if i pass, i will spend more money to buy a car and who knows, i may get into an accident due to my lack of skills. This is what i called ‘ positive thinking’ Hahaha

Last 3 months of the year was quite challenging for me because i will need to clear my own personal sales target by end of Dec. With the incentives given by my company and agency, i was really quite motivated to fight for it. So far so good, i managed to get most of the incentives and i am into the final lap of the race. That is to get more from my company and to increase my bonus =)

So after doing a recap, i will give myself a 7 out of 10 for this year performance. Although many unhappy things had happened to me but i still managed to make the best out of it and still stay positive. I would said that i am now on my way up the rollar coaster wave. Things are definitely looking better for me now. Next year, i promise myself that it will be better and i will make sure i do it. Next one week will be spending time to do some strategy thinking on how to build my business in 2010 and how i can upgrade myself even more and provide more value to my clients!

I will be back to share with you on what is my new year resolution for 2010! Stay tuned! Cheers =)

Have you ever experienced setting resolutions that you never achieved? Are you already getting sick of having resolutions because it never come true? Are you already feeling lazy when trying to set resolution? If you have answered ‘yes’ to all the questions above, then keep reading to see how i share with you the secret to a whole new revolution!

First of all, let us understand the meaning of resolution and goals? According to wikipedia, new year resolution is a committment that an individual makes to a project or the reforming of a habit, often a lifestyle change that is generally interpreted as advantageous while a goal or objective consists of a projected state of affairs which a person plans or intends to achieve or bring about — a personal or organizational desired end-point in some sort of assumed development. Many people endeavor to reach goals within a finite time by setting deadlines.

Therefore if you have been failing to achieve your resolutions then the good news is that you are not lousy. You just need to set goals instead of resolutions! If you can see the difference, you will realise that the main issue is that a goal focus on timelines and desired end point whereas resolutions makes people focus on changing a habit or lifestyle.

So the question is how to set goals that can excite us every day and keep us motivated to achieve it? If i can share, the formula is very simple: Specific, Measurable, Action-oriented, Realistic and Time-targeted objectives (SMART) From there, make it as a habit by writing it down in a book for 21 days. Most important, this goal MUST EXCITED you! This goal must be able to stirr the emotions in your mind and the goal got to be a MUST and not just a WANT. After that, i’m very sure that the goals that you set will be drill deeply in your mind and sub consciously, you will direct all your actions towards achieving it.

One example of me setting a goal was the first year when i started out this career. During that time, i told myself that i want to be a rookie consultant in my agency. So i sat down with my boss, Merry Riana, to find out more about my target and how i can achieve it(Realistic-checking). After that session, i am determined to make it happen. I set my target to be a top rookie consultant(Specific) in one years time (Time) with a minimium standard of production(Measurable). I even set out what are the activities(Action-Oriented) that im going to do if i’m serious to clear my goal.

With everything on hand, the next things that i do was to write down the reasons for my goal every morning the moment i woke up and night time just before i sleep. i wrote down every single reasons on world that i can think of and continued this routine for 21 days (no more no less). Basically i sleep and breath my goals and each morning i was always feeling excited to work towards it no matter how tired i am. After 3 weeks of writing, everything that i do simply just geared towards my top rookie goals.

Guess what happened in the end? DId i managed to clear my goal in the end? Was there alot of problems to deter me from my goals? Of course there were alot of challenges and obstacles along the way but thank God for his blessing, i managed to clear my goal with every single things that i had set for myself! It was through this experience that i have shared with many people and some have benefited from it. Even till today when i set my goals, i do exactly the same things if i am really serious about my goals.

Therefore if there is one thing for you to take back, please remember that a goal is nothing unless it means something to you so attach VALUE to it!
